ok... so whether you all know or not... there are the FNORD awards... micronational community awards selected by a jury of prominent micronationalist. this year was a bit of a joke.. took forever, several judges won awards... also its run by the MNN so it is inherently evil.
the MCS attempted one... or at least some newb nation attempted a new award ceremony using the MCS name. it was less than spectacular.
therefore... I propose we begin the Lindstrom Prize for Micronational Achievement. It will be a private ordeal, very much like the Nobel Prizes. Various categories such as literature, peace, etc will be judged and handed to individuals. I think that Natopia has enough status and longevity to give these the legitimacy that the other awards seemed to lack.

Just a word on the MASOM ones - they were organised very badly. I got on the judging commitee thinking they'd be done half seriously - the organiser just got the three judges to nominate a person, and then vote from those. Really ... very newbish. FNORD's at least had nominations at large ...

i think it should be an open nomination... so anyone can receive one. giving one to a non-micronationalist may increase interest in the hobby as well. let's sit on this for awhile... if we dont refine the idea any more, we'll go to the community forums and announce that we are accepting nominations. to avoid unbalanced categories... we wont have any. the nominator will simply say "so and so for achievement in whatever... here are sources" and then we will simply award that person a Lindstrom Prize. we keep noms open until we get... at least 10... then once we get that minimum we'll set a week or so limit on additional noms. and then award.... 3 Make it prestigious. The jury will be Natopian citizens only... and therefore Natopian citizens are not eligible. thoughts?
