is July 31. in honor of the 4th anniversary of the creation of the Natopian Monarchy a small event will take place in the palace gardens.
First, as in Natopian custom on anniversaries, a recitation of the history of the thing being commemorated:
The Jubilee is directly related to the Ziegish holiday of Purification Day, which was formerly celebrated on a national scale. With the Venerable Union of Aligned States collapsing on july 20, 2005, the Sovereign Imperial Republic of Natopia suffered a tremendous setback. Elements of monarchy have always permeated throughout the government and so after the collapse, Nathan, as Grand Chancellor, began formulating a way to bring Natopia back. The new Royal Constitution of the Sovereign Imperial Kingdom of Natopia was proposed to the nation by Nathan the very same day, July 20. Within 3 days, it was ratified by enough officials and the monarchy was officially established on July 23.
However, a Coronation was planned for July 31, 2005, on what was referred to as Transition Day, to correspond to Purification Day. The monarchy was originally hereditary. New crown jewels were commissioned for the ceremony as well.
Imperial State Crown - platinum, green velvet, emeralds, sapphires, and amethyst. Symbol of the monarch.
Imprial Sceptor - Topped by a Fleur-de-Natopie, a floral design created for both the sceptor and Crown. The Fleur-de-Natopie is not based on an actual flower, but rather used in place of a fleur-de-li to make Natopia's royal symbols unique. Represents the monarchy's authority to rule.
Sword of Sovereignty - Used for inductions. In the form of the Imperial Seal, the Cross of Sovereignty. It is kept sharp so that inductees must be trusting of the monarch not to behead them during their induction. (lol) Represents the monarchy's duty to protect the nation.
However, by October a change was made to the monarchy and Natopia after about 2 months as a kingdom, changed to the Sovereign Natopian Empire. King Nathan abdicated in order for the Knights of the Black Hole to elect an emperor from their ranks, which of course was Nathan.
The Empire would be an elected monarchy until its collapse and the formation of the Second Republic and subsequent Dark Age in 2007-8. When Natopia was reformed the government chosen was monarchy again. Currently the monarchy is hereditary, by familial lines or adoption.
And now enjoy free juice and bagels, make-your-own-crown craft tables and goat petting zoo for the kids. The Imperial Treasury will have extended tour hours until Sunday so people may see the Crown Jewels on display.
btw... digging through the old forum i discovered that the current law in the Bovic Code as the jubilee on july 29... hooray for historical correctness and it gives the frenzy a reason to do something.
