I really couldn't help but wonder if you had noticed this article.
Antica Should Appreciate, if not Embrace, the New Era – November 7th, 2009
An Editorial by Mateu Vasroe SSA
My, how times change! Batavia, Natopia, Ashkenatza and other nations form a small commonwealth, and now, incredibly, it is viewed by some as a threat to the independence of non-member micro-nations! And these same individuals consider Shireroth to be a puppeteer and the SC members puppets! This is simply not so. While Shireroth happens to be a founding member of the SC, and while Shireroth is the oldest, strongest independent micro-nation, its membership in the Small Commonwealth is not at all imperialist. Shireroth is only a member of the Small Commonwealth because it, very smartly, wants to benefit from membership, just like Batavia, Natopia, Ashkenatza, and etc.
Membership in the Small Commonwealth means golden benefits such as a united currency, a united bank, a united judicial system (currently being planned), a united standards group for rec-wars, and etc. Membership in the “small commonwealth” means an official stamp of approval from the triple-A nations of the micro-nationalist hobby. Membership in the “small commonwealth” means, for a member micro-nation, that the member micro-nation has “made it” in the micro-national world. For these reason it is inevitable for Shireroth to be a member of the Small Commonwealth, and, moreoever, for any good, up-and-coming micro-nation to be a member of it.
Detractors and those otherwise opposed to the Small Commonwealth are isolationist relics. They still yearn for the era that existed before this current era of micro-national peace and unity. Their means of survival? Driving up interest and activity in themselves by bashing successful nations, such as Shireroth, that choose to be upstanding members of the wider micro-national community, which they refuse to engage in. Their other means of survival is driving up their activity levels by fomenting their own internal enmities. Should Antica be such a nation, opposed to a new Era? No, it does not have to be.
The Small Commonwealth portends a hopeful future for micro-nationalism. Whether or not Antica chooses to become a member of the Small Commonwealth, there is a good chance Antica agrees with the general principles of the Small Commonwealth. It goes without saying that no nation is forced to cede its sovereignty or independence when it joins the Small Commonwealth. Sadly, those who oppose the Small Commonwealth do so for selfish reasons, which serves to stifle the growth and progress of the general community of nations on Micras. Again, Antica does not have to be selfish or stifle general micro-national growth and progress.
In conclusion, if Anticans do not embrace the Small Commonwealth by joining it, they should at least acknowledge the new era of micro-national peace and progress that it represents, and refrain from railing against Small Commonwealth members.
