so micronations came up today in a conversation. and i tried to explain it to them.... they basically called me delusional and egotistical and the hobby was pointless. i tried to save face by saying it was like NationStates... but they just said it was even more dumb sounding. they also wanted to know why we can even exist if we dont have a real economy and then they wanted to know if we had internet hookers in our micronations

We're not losers - they are for not understanding a fun, intellectually stimulating and socially orientated hobby. You make a lot more friends and learn a lot more life skills in micronationalism than in stamp collecting.

How exactly did you explain it to them, if I may ask?

i didnt have much time to explain before i was attacked and couldnt get a word in edgewise. i began by saying they were simulations that people grouped together voluntarily to discuss politics and simulate government structures. thats all i was able to say... as i had to keep explaining what simulating governments meant and they didnt seem to understand that each real person generally "plays" themselves (i didnt dare talk about people creating and operating various personas in different nations and such things lol)

That's alright. I've been doing this for seven years, and I don't think I quite have a handle on it either.
I don't see what's so loserish about people coming together and simulating. Role Playing Games are essentially the same concept.
