Forging of the Empire: From the Collapse of the Republic, VUAS, and the Kingdom
2006
The Sovereign Imperial Republic of Natopia was in a very confused and backward state. While the national government proclaimed democracy and republic, the local governments were literally feudal fiefs of baronies and duchies. The Grand Chancellor of the Republic ruled by decree, and appointed citizens to the legislature. The Republic was ever reaching for more and more land to expand the prestige of the nation, reminiscent of the late 19th century imperialism of Europe. Natopia gained its empire in the formation of the Venerable Union of Aligned States. However, Lavalon, a member state, declared the union unconstitutional, and left. The union collapsed around the Republic, which was also enduring criticism surrounding the thoroughly Natopian political party in Lavalon, the Progressive Bagelcratican Party. The Republic was accused of using the Bagelcratican Party to infiltrate and annex Lavalon. Both Lavalon and Natopia lashed out against each other, with Natopia breaking off treaties and a distinct anti-Natopian movement forming in Lavalon. The President of Lavalon was forced to resign, as she was the Natopian Prime Minister. As the two entwined states grew to the peak in the Union, they collapsed, falling separate ways, tearing each other apart as they went.
The Republic was ruined. Public support for the national government fell to the lowest point since the use of the Death Houses. Citizens began to look to their demesnial governments now, the governments who had remained stable and dependable throughout the years. Natopia fractured into Lochhatonia, Tasneemia, Robland, Pavleton and Punkrock, the feudal demesnes of the Republic. Amazingly, the national government suppressed the internal strife caused by the Collapse of the Union, and even went to far as to proclaim the Grand Chancellor the new King of a unified Kingdom.
The Imperial Kingdom of Natopia lasted only one month until the forces of demesnial interest caused its dissolution. The demesnes were now at war with each other, each hoping to truly unite the nation again. King Nathan saw this, and was concerned. He established the Barony of Ziegeland around his capital, Lindstrom City. Ziegeland then turned to quickly conquer Pavleton. With the Pavletonian resources, Nathan was able to persuade the Punkrockers to ally with him. Lochhatonia, Tasneemia, and Robland met to discuss possibilities of uniting themselves, as they still held advantage over the Ziege Alliance. The indecision of the northern demesnes cost Robland its neutrality. Lochhatonia and Tasneemia formed an alliance and prepared a full-scale invasion of the south. During this time, several members of the Tasneemian Ducal Council suggested using nearby Crystal Island as a strategic point for liberating Robland and the valuable port of Hazelwood. Several Tasneemian military detachments were sent to establish a military base.
The Barony of Ziegeland, however, was too powerful. The Baron was King of Natopia, and the Imperial Kingdom was, regardless of internal contradictions, the sovereign government of Natopia to the rest of the world. Foreign aid would pour into Ziegeland should they ask it. The Lochhatonians and Tasneemians surrendered to the Ziegeland, under the stipulation that the rights of the demesnes would not be infringed. Ziegeland suggested an alteration to the national government, the formation of an empire.
